Equip your operating system with reliable and powerful protection software and keep all your software and applications regularly updated. Use reputable browsers and original operating system. Scan your computer for viruses and various threats regularly. Do not wait for critical and obvious signs of harmful software interacting with your computer to conduct routine maintenance.
Most of the scams actually appear quite attractive, funny, interesting or financially tempting. Be aware of all forms of commercials, offers, messages, services, even games that require your personal information. Cyber criminals utilize pretty much all available channels to trick potential users, but officially looking mails are the most common form. Be particularly sceptic when applications asks for your password, e-mail address and credit card number.
It is similar as in real life – careful where you wander at the internet and what do you take home. In other words, avoid visiting web pages with suspicious content, following the suggested external links leading to pages promoting illegal actions, avoid clicking onto click-bait content and particularly be cautious when downloading suspicious material.
One of the ways to protect yourself at the internet is to use strong password. This means constructing password with at least 20 characters that is not typical and common, updating it every once in a while, avoiding to write it down in front of anyone or sharing it publicly anywhere. Also, use different specific password for sensitive content and always make sure to back up all your valuable data.
